Frequently Asked Questions

Why 1%?
Our members find that the 1% pledge of net worth is a very manageable guideline - or benchmark -for giving. Traditional standards use a percentage of gross income to determine levels of giving, but we ask our members to consider both surplus income and earning assets when determining giving levels. It's a more accurate reflection of a member's giving ability. If fact, many of our members are surprised to find that the cost of giving is considerably less when the tax savings are taken into account.
Are there any required meetings, dues, etc.?
No. All we ask for is your pledge. There are no required meetings, dues, or disclosures. However, many of our members enjoy meeting other individuals of influence from the community, a find it inspiring and informative to join our sponsored events and gatherings.
Who distributes the money?
You do. The One Percent Club does not collect or distribute donations. Instead, we provide tools and resources so our members can make informed decisions about the charities they give to.
How should I direct my contributions?
Fund the things you love! The United Way provides excellent guidance in the evaluation of specific charitable groups as does the National Charities Information Bureau, the Philanthropic Advisory Service of the Better Business Bureau, and the American Institute of Philanthropy.
Do I need to disclose my donations?
Never. The 1% pledge is based on the honor system. We send out an optional survey every year to estimate donations, but it is completely anonymous.
